– He says that Joho has no option but to surrender his gun licence since the state revokes it anytime it feels appropriate to do so
– He also asked the governor not to politicise the withdrawal of his security detail because they are under investigations for stripping a woman
Interior CS Joseph Nkaiserry has wadded into the raging debate around Mombasa Ali Hassan Joho’s security that has dominated headlines in the past few days.
He has demanded that Joho surrenders the guns he was licenced to hold as demanded by police without complicating the issue as there is a valid reason why his licence was revoked.
“No single Kenya fully owns a gun, when you apply you pay for the licence and the government only gives you a gun that can be taken away if there is a valid reason,” Nkaiserry said in a press statement on Saturday,March 12.
Joseph Nkaiserry also said that far from the state trying to reduce the number of police officers attached to leaders, Joho’s security detail was withdrawn as they are being investigated for stripping a woman
According to Nkaiserry, it is to Joho’s own advantage that his private firearms are withdraw from him.
He went on to blast Hassan Joho for seeking to gain political mileage from the issue by playing the victim instead of cooperating with police.
“The public should not be deceived by Joho’s false display of bravado, he must cooperate with police as he is not above the law,” went on Nkaiserry.
The past one month has arguably been Hassan Joho’s most traumatising as the government appeared to go hard on him with his party ODM linking it to the governor’s strong stance against Jubilee.
Barely had the dust settled after a crackdown on Container Freight Station businesses associated with Joho’s family before police officers attached to him were withdrawn.
The licence to his three guns was also revoked with police saying that he no longer qualifies to hold a licenced gun. He blamed the developments on his firce opposition of the Jubilee administration.
