Waititu is using brother’s academic papers – Kabogo

Fresh details have emerged in the controversy surrounding the academic qualifications of Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu as he dresses up for a date in court next week.

The Star has obtained documents suggesting Waititu is using academic certificates belonging to Clifford Ndung'u Waititu, which Kiambu Governor William Kabogo claims is a different person from the MP.

Clifford, whose whereabouts are unknown, went to Mbagathi Primary School until 1975. His CPE index number was 5209047, before he proceeded to Dagoretti High School in 1981 and later to Panjab University, Chandigarh, India, in 1985.

Controversy started when Waititu applied for a change of name in the run-up to the 2013 general election. He adjusted his name from Ferdinand Ndung'u Waititu to Ferdinand Clifford Ndung'u Waititu, who was a degree holder from Panjab University.

Waititu, however, maintains he was in Panjab University, SGGS College, from 1985 to 1988, where he graduated with second class honours upper division in Bachelor of Commerce.

The documents indicate Clifford has been constantly going to school, until he was awarded a degree in commerce from the university.

"Ferdinand Ndung'u Waititu, whose birth was registered on January 4, 1980, cannot be the same person as Clifford, who sat for CPE at Mbagathi primary in 1975," the suit filed by Kabogo reads.

Kabogo, who appears to be cutting down to size his opponents, in the run up to the elections, says Waititu changed his name in 2013 to acquire all academic papers bearing the names Clifford Ndung'u Waititu, to allow him to vie for governor.

Clifford has never applied to contest for any elective position in the country.

Kabogo says Waititu should be charged for theft of identity and be barred from contesting any public office for breach of the penal code and gross violation of the constitution.

A copy of the degree certificate from Panjab University seen by the Star is addressed to Clifford Ndung'u Waititu who shares same parents with Ferdinand Waititu – Waititu Ndogi.

"It is therefore a fact that for 51 years of his life, he has never changed his name and has always been known by the same name in all his interactions and transactions," Kabogo said.

He argues Waititu "does not have any qualification past primary school education and in any event Waititu never went to India for higher education".
