Ruto's trips to Kisii, Nyamira are useless - ODM MPs

Two ODM MPs have dismissed Deputy President William Ruto’s increased visits to Kisii and Nyamira counties as politically inconsequential.

Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba) and Manson Nyamweya (South Mugirango) said on Monday that the visits are dominated by empty talk.

Ruto has made 10 visits to the counties since 2013. He held two funds drives in Kisii's Bonchari and Bobasi constituencies on Sunday and told the communtiy to join Jubilee Party.

Nyamweya said: “Kisii is an ODM zone. Leaders who will join Jubilee will be swept away during the next election because this government has not done anything for three years apart from making promises."

Bosire dismissed Ruto’s assertion that the community made a mistake in voting overwhelmingly for Cord leader Raila Odinga.

“We exercised our democratic right. After all, areas which voted for Jubilee are facing problems similar to ours. The people of Kericho were recently complaining about roads,” said the MP who is ODM treasurer.

He said the Kisii community will not be moved by empty talk and will remain steadfast in ODM.
Bosire said the government had perfected the art of 'Kusema na kutenga bila kutenda', which directly translates to 'Promising and setting aside without fulfilling'.

Bosire and Nyamweya dismissed promises to construct roads in Kisii saying Ruto has failed to do so in his backyard.

“We are in a new dispensation where Parliament allocates money for projects. Kisii people are taxpayers and should not beg for projects,” Nyamweya said.

But Kenya National Library Service chairman Samuel Nyangeso and lawyer Julius Ogamba defended Ruto’s trips.

“Their view is bigoted. They should offer alternatives instead of always castigating. The DP is entitled to visit Kisii and tell us what the government has in store for us,” Nyangeso said.

He said Cord is worried because Jubilee is making serious inroads in Kisii.

Raila got majority votes in Kisii and Nyamira counties in the 2013 general election. President Uhuru Kenyatta got only 25 per cent of the two counties' votes.
